Amos 3 : the Double Trap :
waking up the sons (144)
[as Am.3+4 – very corrupted
prob. will remain cripple]
[start date : 2022-07jul.08]
waking up the 144
— continued from chapter 2 —
searching the theme :
… the apparent mess is not our fault :
we do nothing but trying to restore a followable , logical buildup ,
but this Amos 3 absolutely made No Sense —
at the end of previous chapter the 144 battle the Ammon sons
and Esau – belonging to Ammon – SAW that danger and hence
started to disarm any logical follow-up here ;
we first need to know what can be a possible continuation :
— at the end of chapter 3 the 144 are promised to war Ammon ,
so likely now must start “the condition for the 144” :
— but what is that condition ?
answer : if they will understand what was said in 1 and 2 ,
hence
a) the “agree section” (lines 3-7 here) ;
b) line 8 must be but “who” will understand what I said ? ,
c) line 9 : “report you !” about it (rest : unclear)
d) line 11 : because of the report the enemy will come to earth ?
e) line 12 : sons will be barely saved ;
problem :
… after the above should follow “but I will need to teach you to listen”
(as this theme often builds up in prophets – and we’ve only 3 lines) ,
but the only proper section appears in Amos 4 (lines 5-12) :
>> which in itsélf is corrupted / extended (so we’d have some 4 lines)
because “cleanness of teeth” and “walking cities” are nonsense
while “giving no rain” is endlessly repeated (=Esau filled space) ;
yet the “firebrand plucked from the burning” (Am.4:11) is good
but see it’s the same as “shepherd taketh out a piece” hére in 12
(but firebrand is better) meaning Esau copied & pasted much
so , realigned :
0) “I will send you sons against them – IF” (lines 1-2 here) ;
a) the “agree section” (lines 3-7 here) ;
b) line 8 : not agáin ‘a lion’ — but the ‘who’ is almost always
a request to the sons : “who” will understand what I said ? ;
c) line 9 : “report you !” about it (rest : unclear)
d) Am. 4:5-12 : ‘the making to listen’ section
e) Am. 4:11 : “and I will save you like a firebrand”
f) closingline : unknown still (as intro to next theme) ;
…
remark : “the bulls” section of Am. 4: 1-3 (4) belongs to Amos 6 (bulls) ;
corruption : total
theme : intended context virtually 100% restored
fulltext : perhaps later
Amos 3 [+4 ; restored out of sections]
after the end of chapter 2 , now the 144 directly addressed :
1
[+therefore] ,
hear – this – word – which – IEUE – speaks – [=to] you ,
(you-) sons of – Ishral : [<< potential 144]
b
[..2x..] – [+I] (will) family=save – which=you (ashr=athe) , +
c (mshphch=iash)
[+and] I bring [+you] – [=to] – [+your] land (‘eden’) +
[+at?] [+my] say=sacred – egypt=mountain , [<< other Reality]
2
but=when – [..1x..] – I=you (will) understand +
b
[+what] (=which ; ashr) – [+I] from=(have) said + [<< in 1 & 2]
c (m=amr)
all=concerning (km=ol) – families=Tyre +
the=and [+your] (adm-) ground (‘eden’) ;
d
[..]
therefore – punish=return – [=to] you=me + [<< see lateron]
e (phqd=shb)
ath=from (ath=ol) – all – your depravities ;
next :
the condition explained – 144 need same mindset as God :
3
[+because] – (can) two – walk – together
unless – [..] they (are) in agreement ?
4
(shall) a lion – roar – in the forest [‘and the same goal’]
[=while] – [..] he (has) – no – prey ? ,
[+or] (will) – a young lion + [<< the 144 will become]
raise – his voice – from his den
unless – [..] he (is about-) to seize (-something) ? ;
note :
line 1 b) : ‘families’ ; [point has been made by now !]
was weird anyway already ;
… 1-2 have a solid buildup and with 3-4 in fact are kind ;
next 5-6 are corrupt — because the 144 need to understand their
PRESENT situation ; but Esau (typically) dragged on the theme
turning it into ‘birds and bees and trumpets and God doing evil’ :
next 5-6 : the ‘imprisoned sóul’ explained (not: ‘bird’) :
[previous ‘seized’ indicated a juxtaposition now :]
[Amos 4]
lines 1-3 are about ‘the bulls of Bashan’ ;
lines 3-4 BOTH contain ‘sacrifices / offerings’
while in 4a is even twice the term “transgressions” = all corrupt ,
yet we badly need ‘the three years’ in 4 :
4
[+because] [+when] you (will) come=remove – [..1x..]
the [=evil ones] (‘words’) – [..1x..]
[=from] gilgal=between – [..1x..] – the [=righteous ones] (‘words’)
you (will) come=understand] – [+my] morning=words (bqr=drb)
[+I] (will) sacrifice=rescue you
[=in] the third – days=year ,
5
[..9x..]
(you-) sons of – Ishral , (is) the declaration of – myLord – IEUE ;
6
[..] also=therefore – I – (will) give=visit (‘to judge’) – [..] you ,
[..8x..]
[..] not=so that – you (will) return – unto me , says – IEUE : +
note :
concerning 4-5-6 :
… you understand we can suggest only a contextual restoration ,
we simply can not know what were the exact words that got Lost –
see that the “so that you will return to me” introduces next section :
next : a (triple-) crescendo of punishment :
(1)
7
[..] also=therefore – I (will) withold – the rain – from you ,
[=as] – the [=downpour] – [=before] – [..2x..] the harvest ,
[..17x..] [corrupt – nonsensical]
8
[..11x..] [corrupt – nonsensical]
and=yet – you (will) – not – return – to me ,
(is) the declaration of – IEUE ;
(2)
9
I (will) smite – [..] your gardens (‘moved’) +
[..] [=with] – increased (adj.) – blasting – and [..] mildew ,
b
and – the palmerworm (‘moved’) – (will) devour +
[..] your vineyards , [..] your figtrees – and your olive trees ,
and=yet – you (will) – not – return – to me ,
(is) the declaration of – IEUE ;
(3)
10
[=then] I (will) send – [=among] you +
the plague – after the manner of – Egypt ,
b
[+and] I (will) cause – your young men +
(to be) killed – [=by] the sword [<< ‘wars’]
with=and – horses=go – [+into] captivity ,
c
and I (will make) – the stink of – your camp +
to come up – [..] into your noses ,
and=yet – you (will) – not – return – to me ,
(is) the declaration of – IEUE ;
(the turning point)
11
[+but then] +
I (will) turn – you – upside down , [<< ‘a breakdown’]
as – [+I] overturned – [..1x..] – Sodom – and Gomorrah ,
b
and=by which – you (will) become + [b : ‘fragile’]
like a firebrand – (to be) rescued – from the fire :
c [b : Zecheriah]
and not=then – you (WILL) return – to me ,
(is) the declaration of – IEUE ;
closing :
12
[..1x..] – as thus – I (will) act – towards you , +
(you-) [+house] – Ishral ,
b
[=and] – I (will) do – this – to you +
that=in order – to prepare you – [=for] meeting – your deity – [..1x..] ;
(last line : ‘a condition’ – but too corrupted)
… this last line must introduce the next ‘inner earth’ chapter ,
but the question – as often – is : what did it really say ? ;
while ‘the condition’ must somehow refer back to ‘the Amorite’ :
13
because – behold ! ,
b
[too corrupted]
[sorry … – no phrase jumps out and the remained roots are tricky]
