Heb.3 (part I)
the 40 years in desert
(then) the first christians
(unto) the lawless endtime
40 (=2000) years later
[2021-14.may]

[posted 14 may : 2nd half]

theme [-buildup of part I]

understanding the endtime according to the (-extra !) 40 years in the desert

  • part I                      :   ‘the fathers of old , who hardened their hearts after the Exodus’,
  • part I b                  :   ‘but we (says Paul) , the first christians, do NOT harden our hearts :
    yet we will have to beseech God to ensure souls who will understand ,
    because
  • part I c                   :    ‘the believers áfter us WILL harden their hearts’ – the next 2000 years ;
  • next chapter 4  :   ‘but out of the people after us will become the 144
     who will NOT have hardened their hearts’ ;

the journey to the promised land – as foreshadowing of ‘the journey to Eden’

… as the very intention of the buildup (above) ;
we saw in other chapters that Paul KNEW that the latter generation in the endtime
would be in serious danger of not understanding what God said in prophets ;
hence ,
here “the extra 40 years” is used as example of “the result of not listening to God”,
and their situation is used to describe the situation of the future generation ;
the 2000 years :
… though this is not specifically mentioned in the text ,
we opted (see report Introduction) that this can be very well 40 x 50 Jubilee years ;
next chapter 4 will again contain ‘numbers’ ,
perhaps further clarification will be given there ;

corruptions : 150%
see other Hebrew chapters for specifics ;
chapter context 100% restored

Heb. 3 [-as part I]

below 9 :
… though “did not see my work” is admissible ,
the theme of this chapter is “hear my words” :                                              [9 : 40 literal years]

9
[+because] – [=after] – your – [..] fathers – tried – Me , (..+I..) (..forsook..) – me=them ,
b
and – they (would) – (..+not..) – (..hear..) – [..] my – (..voice..) – [the next-] fourty – years ;

10
[=because] – I (was) displeased – [+with] [..] that – [Exodus-] generation ,
b
and – I said : [..] [+their] – heart – (is) always – straying ,                                    [10 b : see 19]
c
[=because] – they – (do) not – understand – [..] my – (..words..) (hodos=logos) ;

11
[=therefore] – I swore – in – [..] my – wrath :
b
they (will) – not – enter – into – my – [..] rest ;                      [<< here as the promised land]

part I b                                                                                         the situation of Paul and the Hebrews

next section :
… Paul (c.q. Christ) now turns to their ówn situation ,
but as contextual direction for US to understand that the next timeline is ‘since Christ’ :

12
[+now] – brethren ,
b
you (..know..) – [=that] – [+we] (do) (..nót..) (NO-?-when) – (..have..)           +

13
but=and– [=we] beseech – (..Him..) – concerning – (..+his things..) – every – day ,
b
until=since – the – day – [+he] (has) called – [+us] ;                                  [<< juxta : in line 19]
c
[what can be next ? ‘seduction + sin’ isn’t the theme :]                   [next : a subtheme starts]

that=therefore – (let us) no=also – (..beseech..) [+him]        +
d
any=that – sin=(..he (will be) calling..) – out=the ones          +                     [<< read : the 144]

b
[+as] – [=those] – firmly holding           +
c
the – sure [=’unaltered’] [=’adj.’] – (..word..) – [..] (of-) (..God..) – in – the – end (-time) ;

part I c                        reason why their beseeching is very necessary  :  the next 2000 years

… for ‘40’ now as ‘2000’ , see top of page ;

15
in=because – it – (will be) said – [+in] – if=those – days :                        [<< the endtime , 14c]
b
[..] his – voice – (can) (..+not..) – (be) heared ;                                              [<< juxta : see Is.64 etc]
c
[+but] – it (will have) provocation=happened           +                          [<< provocation is in 16b]
d
no=because – [+they] (will have) hardened – you=their – [..] (-own) heart [..] ;

                                                                                                                                    [16 : still endtime situation ! :]
16
for=and – some=God (tis=theos) – (will) hear – [+their] rebellion [=’loving this world’]     +
b
but=which (will be) – not=like – (of-) all – those – (having) come – out – (of-) Egypt ;
c
[+now] – by=as – (the-) moses=generation       +                                      [<< since first christians]
17
[=in] – whom – he (will have been) displeased – fourty – years ;     +  [<< past 2000 years]

                                                                                                                                                                                  (closing)

closing section , two scenarios :
… Paul will only address the 144 in next part II (ch.4) , so his reasoning here could have been
A) apart from the 144 ,
      Jacob will have to go through the tribulation   —
      then the context should read “…and only áfter that , God will save them” ;

however , his reasoning máy have been

B)  IF the 144 will NOT come into being                                    (what he asked in line 13-14)
      then God indeed would destroy Jacob
      which has been all the time a serious possibility  (until now !) , see other chapters
      (and this would have been a compelling argument for the Hebrews !)   —
      then the context indeed must read “..swore that they will never enter his rest”;
… we chose for A :

b
[+as] – the – sinners         +
whose – (..soul..) (ouchi=psychê) – (will be) (..tried..) – in – the – (..end [-time]..) (?)
18                                                                                                                                             (eémos=telos?) ;
[=about] – whom – He (has) sworn        +
b
[+that] – [+only] – not=áfterwards – they (will) enter – into – his – rest ;

c
if=because – [..] [+they] (will) – [..1x..] – (have) disobeyed [+him] [=God]        +
19
and=when – [=he] (will have) (..called..) [+them] ,                                    [c + 19 : attested in prophets]
b
[=as] – not – (having) (..desired..) – (..to understand..) – [..] [+his] unbelief=word (apistia=logos) .

above 19 a :
… in prophets as “I called them but they did not answer”,
and the context there of this line is always about “go understand my word”;
the ‘calling’ is then “a wake-up call” , understood as “some personal trial” ;
19 c :
… KJV’s “not be able” is only secondary – as result of “not wánting to” ;
